A letter to Alex

Dear Alex,

I hope this letter finds you well on your journey through the Alaskan wilderness. I wanted to share some simple advice to help you stay safe and thrive in the challenging environment you're facing.

First off, let's talk about finding shelter. It's super important to have a solid place to sleep at night, away from wind and rain. If you can't use your tent, try building a shelter out of branches and leaves, or even snow if it's available. Make sure it's flat and protected from the elements.

Now, onto food. While you've been good at finding stuff to eat, be careful with wild plants and animals. Only eat plants you know are safe, and cook them well. If you're hunting, follow the rules and don't waste energy chasing after something you might not catch.

Getting around in the wild can be tricky, especially in Alaska. Use your map and compass, but also pay attention to landmarks and the sun's position. And if you venture far, leave markers so you can find your way back.

As for animals, they're usually not a problem, but it's smart to be cautious. Make noise to let them know you're around, carry bear spray just in case, and keep your food secure to avoid attracting them.

Lastly, take care of yourself mentally and emotionally. It's okay to feel lonely or overwhelmed sometimes. Take breaks, enjoy the environment, and remember why you're out there in the first place.

Alex, you're embarking on a journey that few dare to undertake. Stay vigilant, stay resilient, and know that you're never truly alone. Draw strength from this experiences, and forge ahead with unwavering resolve.

You're not alone, Alex. Stay safe, stay smart, and don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it.

Best wishes,

Marcela
